QT plants...why?

Other than snails are there other reasons to QT plants that youve purchased from a reputable plant seller online? If snails are the only concern couldnt I just put the plants in the tank and catch the snails later? Or are there other diseases or parasites that come along with the plants? Im mostly asking because I dont have any more QT tanks available or even buckets, they are all being used to QT other plants and snails.

Personally, I don't QT plants that I buy, however, it really is a good idea to QT plants if they came from tanks that also had fish-for at least 2-3 weeks.
Sometimes you can have parasite/pathogen issues brought in by plants, however, it is rare...but it can happen....

As for hitching snails, here again, I don't have any issues with the common snails that often can hitchhike into the tank from plants. I like common snail and they all have jobs in my system, however, they can over populate pretty fast if not kept in check. I manually remove them on a regular basis and in my systems- this can be in numbers over 100 every week or so...lol....

QT'ing plants won't guarantee that you won't get snails from them once they go into your tank - baby snails and snail eggs will still be in the plant even after a year in QT.

Sometimes you get fun stuff hitchhiking in on your plants- like Scuds. hehe
