You've probably never been bit

I'm afraid of my girls at feeding time. They do bite the hand that feeds! Granted it's not very hard or painful. But when 7 ladies decide to bite in tandem, it gets a bit much.

I've only been nipped once. One of my previous ladies, Hailey, decided that my finger was nomnoms. Now, I feed my babies with a chopstick!

I routinely feed Fluffy off the tip of my finger -- i.e. wet one of the pellets so that it sticks and then hover my finger just above the water surface. He strikes at my finger, sometimes just knocking the pellet off and sometimes getting it dead on.

I do this with at least a couple of pellets a day and had never noticed anything more than a dull thud against my finger when he hit ... until ... the day I decided to play "Circus Betta" and raised my finger a bit higher to see if he'd lunge out of the water.

He did and he hit hard! It wasn't particularly painful, just surprising, and it did leave a bite mark that lasted most of the day!

I was actually going to start a similar thread, my bettas have never bit me hard but my little sister, I put a little dried worm on her tip like I do when I feed them, I like to see them wriggle and try to get it, it bit her hard, like a 2 on the pain level XD

I never thought betta's could hurt.

I had an argument with lil' Red that's when he bit me. He won the argument.

Perry bit me before. I put her in the tub and we were playing tag. I chased Perry with my finger and I touched her so she was "it". Perry turned around and bit my finger softly and kept tugging on it. I let her pull my hand in. It was pretty cute. We play tag every week but usually she puts her mouth on my finger.

I've been bit plenty of times :D It leaves a mark on the skin, but not deep enough to get past the dead skin. Wanna see what it feels like? Dip your finger int he water, then in the food, then hover it above the tank anout 1/4 inch (best results with the sorority). They can really grab on too :D They can actually hang on by my nail for a second before they realize "Omg I can't breathe up here!"
