Ghost Shrimp...what do they eat???

Hello everyone,
It has been 1 month since I brought my betta home - I have him in a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater and I can't say enough good things about the Nano filter. I promised him a friend or two if he stayed alive for at least 1 month, so today I bought him 2 ghost shrimp. I asked the lady at Petco what the shrimp would eat and she said left over food or a live plant. I began to question her knowledge about anything to do with fish when she said my betta didn't need a heater! I know that my betta doesn't have any left over food cuz I hand feed him his pellets - 5 baby pellets twice a day. So what will the shrimp eat?

Maybe if you have some flake food sitting around drop a few flakes in for him?

Sinking pellets work well too, I like spirulina ones for my shrimp. They're scavengers so they'll pretty much eat anything they can find lying on the bottom.
