2 gallon or 5 gallon?

I'm going to order a new tank 'castle' :3 for my betta, Fred.
I'm not sure which size to pick...I'm concerned that the 5 gallon might be too big? I want to put lots of live plants in it and fill it with some hand built porcelain caves (no sharp edges! made by me :D). I'm probably going to get the 5 gallon because it's cheaper but suggestions? It's for one male betta, Fred.

Are larger tanks more of a hassle to clean and start cycling? Or are they easier because they don't build up as much gunk? I am leaving for a week in December and Fred will need to stay in that tank(grandma can't do anything except feed him), so I'm assuming the 5 gallon will be better.

But is there a such thing as too big of a tank?

Larger tanks can hold a more stable cycle and you can perhaps put a few shrimps in there with the fish :)

I would get the 5 gallon if you have space and money ;)

Gonna go for the 5 gal! That's really good to know. The 5gal is actually cheaper :D What kind of shrimps do I put in? I think fred would LOVE to chase them because he already enjoys chasing anything I poke in the air near the surface).

Do consider planting the tank first or cycling before you get shrimps :)

I really like amanos, but I would recommending to start off with ghost shrimps as they are the cheapest, and if your fish is feeling a bit naughty and eats one, at 33c or less a shrimp it wont be too bad ;).

If you have plants, I also recommend a pretty zebra nerite snail when you get the tank cycled.

mr.aqua is coming out with bookshelf kits. this one comes with a light i think, and it's 12inches long. not sure how many gallons though. they also have a 16 and a 20 inch coming out i think.

mr aqua tanks can be had for 80 dollars for a 12 gallon long, this one is wayy smaller though, 12 inch long and comes with light and filter. i think we all spent more than $100 upgrading our tanks, so to me this might be a bargain (depending on how they price it).
