HM with Fin Rot. How long does it take for them to recover?

I recently bought a HM (probably 3-4 months old) and he was really beautiful until he had fin rot a few days ago. He looked really lethargic and floating around the top. Parts of his tail has clamped and rotted away. I have since put him in a smaller container with a few IAL to help him with his recovery. He seems a lot more active and eating flakes and bloodworms. I was wondering how long will it take for all his fins to recover and back to its full shape. Its probably hard to guess without seeing him first but does it usually take weeks or months for them to recover?

And what causes fin rot?

It depends on how sever the fin rot is. My betta Spud got some fin rot last month and I quickly increased my water changes and he got better within a week. He was back to normal within a week and a half. Fin rot is caused by some bacterial infection or some sorta sort. Lol, if the water is not very clean, the chances of fin rot are much higher..
