Hood for a 10 gallon.

So I have 2 of the 10 gallon kits from walmart. I love the tank, but I hate the hood. Well, I hate the lights that came in the hood. They're the tube shaped ones. I bought some "plant lights" frpm my LFS the other day & they're so dull!!! It's a yellowy light too. Bleh. I would love to try out an LED hood. Are these live plant friendly? What type of hood do y'all use on your 10 gallons? I've been looking at the Marineland LED hood. I like that it has a moonlight setting too. :)

Maybe check out CFL Daylight 6500 13 watts. They fit right in, last forever, very bright and most importantly grow plants very well. Good luck.

Try a cfl, you can get a 13 watt 6500k at places like Lowes, Home Depot, for about
$7.00 you'll be able to grow plants with those. Walmart also has a 10 watt cfl 6500k
right in the fish section .

You'll need a 6500K if you have live plants, LED lights are just for color, and not really beneficial to the inhabitants. I heard the Zoomed ReptiTherm is good, or was it the ReptiSun... Either way, get a bulb that's at least 6500K. :)

You want a t5ho 6500k light. I use aquaticlife fixture. I don't know exactly what hood you have but it's unlikely a good bulb can be used in it

It can be if it's a soft white color spect. You want a 6500k and that replicates day light at high noon also known as bright white.
I have the same type of hoods that you have and my tank is a jungle and my lighting is two 13 watt mini cfl 6500k / photo period about 10/12 hrs.

You could go with a glass versa top and a flourescent strip light that sits ontop and you'll have more options for lighting :)

I know what kind of light I need. I was just wondering what kind of hoods y'all used in your 10 gallons if you have planted tanks. I have kind of a hard time finding lights that will fit in this crappy walmart hood. :(
