Internal parasites?

My male Betta. I got him about three weeks ago, and had him in a one gallon for a few days until I could move him, and that was about two weeks ago. He is now in a 10 gallon, filtered, the temperature is at a constant 73-75 degrees. I didn't check the PH levels, because I lack a kit. There is one other fish in the tank with him, and that's a black Kuhli loach, about an inch long. I feed my Betta; Aqueon Tropical flakes once a day, or a little bit more at a later time if I didn't feed him enough, and I drop an algae tablet into the tank once every 2 days or so, for my loach. I change the water 20% every 3-4 days, and do a 10% if the tank looks especially cloudy.
There's currently no lighting on the tank, I do have my desk lamp on for about 12 hours a day though.


His fins have been continuously rotting, some days it looks better but other days not, and the past two days or so he hasn't been eating a lot. Today I noticed a super-long white string looking thing attached to the upper-lower part of his body, and I was wondering what it could be.

I would do more water changes and raise the temp what kind of loach.

It's a black kuhli loach..
I'm not able to raise the temperature, my heater isn't adjustable at all and it's made to idle at that temperature, actually it's supposed to idle at 78, but eh. It's fall, and I'm in the mountains. I can't expect it to do that when my room is icy.

I will try doing more water changes. Thank-you.

Here's my advice raise the temp, more water changes, and lose the loach.
