No, it's not, but I'll keep an eye out for that. Thanks for letting me know to look for it.

I'm thinking I may have caught an external parasite early, before it has been able to multiply... Anyway, I am planning on using Mardel's Coppersafe for 30 days with them. Could this be harmful if I'm not 100% sure?

Jeremy, copper(safe) is really strong stuff and will kill if dosed improperly. I'd underdose if I were you, if you're not 100% certain, or re-think your choice of medication.

Velvet can be gold or rust colored. It starts on the head around the gills and works it's way to the rest of the body. As you treat it, it tends to be around the gills that goes away last. This has been my experience. My girl had it very badly and it started around her head and gills and eventually worked its way to include her fins and tails. As she healed, it became less apparent on her body, but remained on her head and gills for quite a while before it was all gone.
So based on your description, I would say that your guy has just started getting it.
And yes, Velvet is a parasite.
