Marina Style 5

I'm thinking about getting the marina style 5 aquarium kit instead of trying to put together my own.
Does anyone know what the maximim wattage when using a fluorescent is for the light hood?
Also, it the elite heater it comes with good?

Yes Elite heater are great !

It doesn't come with a heater - you will have to buy that separately. And the light that comes with it isn't very good - it's an incandescent bulb which will make the tank too hot. Make sure you can change out the bulb for something better.

Ive used incandescent bulbs without my tanks getting "too hot". The OP doesn't have to change out her bulb.

Actually the one I'm buying does, I didn't realize it didn't have it on that website! Regarding the light; I was asking about fluorescent wattage requirements which implies I am going to change it, thanks for the warning though :)

Thank you! I do prefer fluorescent bulbs though.

I prefer Fluorescent bulbs too. Very pretty lighting.
I have a 5.5 gallon. My bulb is 15W.

Its probably the 15watts stated in the product description (manufacturers often list the max rating). If you change it to a fluorescent bulb, get the one with the same wattage equivalent instead of getting one with the same actual wattage...as a 15w fluorescent would be a lot brighter than a 15w incandescent and thus become too bright for the tank and its inhabitants.

Right. Fifteen watts over a 5g would allow you to grow almost anything, but it's too bright for the usual Betta-friendly beginner plants, and much too bright for the comfort of the fish without sufficient topcover.

I use Hagen Elite mini-filters. They're quiet, reliable (so far), inexpensive and suck air into the flow, providing good aeration for the nitrifying bacteria. Their biggest flaw is insufficient media to fully support the nitrogen cycle. Baffling with filter foam solves this problem.
