Stocking my 20 gallon

I am starting a 20 gallon tank which will hold my male betta and 4 cories. My dad keeps telling me that it will look empty, but I don't want to stress my betta out by adding potentially mean fish or overstock the tank. Would it be a good idea to add more fish and if so what kind of fish should I get? I am very inexperienced with fish so it would have to be something that was pretty hardy.

Cories should be in a group of minimum 5-6. In a 20g you can keep more than 4:)

Im having wonderful Success with Harlequin roseboras and Glass Catfish. Both can be found in the wild with wild Bettas thats why I tried them. I have a Betta tank on the larger side so I wanted to stock it with other things. Also If you have room I read Khuli Loaches and YoYo loaches can do well. I have a pair of YoYos and they havent bothered any one.

For clean up crew Coreys are great, and I read Otocinclus Catfish or Otos can be great to as long as you dont have any one in your tank with yummy slime coats like Discus.

Thanks, how big is your tank and how many do you have of each fish?

its a 12 gallon Octagon, 1 betta, 5 harlequins, 5 Glass cats and 2 YoYos I am using a Fluval canister 106 to handle a slightly larger Bio Load thoug. But they are happy as clams!

I am pretty sure that is overstocking. OP empty look is great.
