I don't with mine, but I do use baby talk and say things like "there's my pretty girl, you're so gorgeous", etc.

I do on the other hand tell my mom's cats to go find their mommy or daddy if I come over and they are trying to get me to do something like clean their litter box. I will give them food and water if they need it, but I won't touch the litter box.

Haha my new (INSANE) boy, Shosta, flares all the time (at any black object), but he is really quite gentle and passive. There are 2 ghost shrimps living with him right now, and he just ignores them. Sometimes he'll follow them around and watch them, but for the most part he's just a crazy, passive boy xD
