Just a thought: 100% water changes every month?

I was wondering if 100% water changes every month is fine for my 5 gallon, filtered and heated tank. The only live plant I have is a moss ball.

Thank you in advance! :)

You should atleast do 50% changes per week, still. With a filter you most likely wouldn't have to do a 100% but it should be fine per month.

I do 50% water changes once a week on my 5.5g cycled tank. I think stretching it to 2 weeks is fine if you have one Betta and snails. One month seems like too long of a time IMO.

For a 5 gallon do 2 50 percents. I was reccomended 1 50 percent in my filtered heavily planted 10 gallon.

The bacteria you want is mostly in the filter, on deccor and susbtrate not floating aorund in the water. I do a 90% every month or two in my 10 gallon. It's divided 3 ways and I remove the fish and dividers to give it a good substrate cleaning in adition to the weekly wC

But that is not even close to enough water changes.

I would add more highly filtering live plants (anacharis, hornwort, etc). I've got a 5 gallon I have been experimenting with and it has about 10 plants in there. So far it has tested at 0ppm for ammonia for 3 weeks straight without water changes. I do top up the water when it gets low.

Well, yes, I have snails in there too. And of course water changes are necessary to remove inorganic compounds that accumulate.
