Popeye :(

I've had my crowntail for about a year now, and we've never experienced any problems. He's always been a happy healthy little guy.

But a few days ago I noticed his eye started to swell up. And now I realize he has popeye. :,(

I've heard you use Epsom salt, and tetracycline? Is that correct?

Forgive my stupid question, but where would I get Epsom salt?

Any tips/suggestions? Thanks guys. :c

Your local drugstore should have it. Make sure you get pure epsom salt though, without any added scents or anything.

Move him to a heated, unfiltered 1 gallon container for treatment. Give him daily 100% water changes and with each change re-dose with 2 tsp. of epsom salt and the appropriate tetracycline dose if you want to (although I would try a few days of just epsom salt and see if that does the trick. You don't want to overmedicate and contribute to antibiotic-resistant bacteria in your tank). Make sure the salt is fully dissolved in the new water before you add it to the tank. You can use epsom salt for up to 10 days, I believe.

I planned on the Epsom salt first, I just want to have the tetracycline as a back up in case I don't see any improvement. Augh, I'm so nervous, I've never had a sick betta before. :c Thanks for your help though, I'll get right on it :')

Sounds like you have a handle on things :) Hope your little guy feels better soon. Please let us know how he's doing in a week or so.

Well, I started him on his Epsom salt. I had to order the tetracycline online, so waiting on that. He definitely does not look amused by being in the one gallon. Hopefully he'll thank me later. :c
