Hello fellow fish lovers!

My name is Jessica and I am an avid lover of betta fish. They're so gorgeous. Two years ago I fell in love with bettas after getting one for my son. His name was Nemo and he died a few days ago. Just yesterday we decided to get a new one. He is a crowntail male named Splash. So I only have a couple years experience with betta keeping.

I keep Splash in a 3 gallon tank with a hood and mini heater, made for small tanks. I keep his tank at about 72 degrees and ph at a 7.2 I don't use a filter because our beloved and deceased Nemo got stuck between the filter and tank which has terrified me. Instead I do a complete water change every 3-4 days which has seemed to work for us.

Splash is our only fishie. We plan on getting a dog for my son's birthday in June. Otherwise that's it for now. I joined in hopes of learning more about bettas and having others to discuss betta care with that share my love of these colorful beauties.

Hi and welcome! Sorry about your loss, what type of filter was it?

It was awhile ago when we had the filter. It was a small hanging type filter. And I couldn't control the flow of it. Anyhoo when we first got Nemo we used until one day I went to feed him and he had disappeared...I looked all over the tank until I found him stuck between the filter and the tank. I quickly unplugged the filter and slowly lifted it out so he could wiggle free. Luckily he was okay. And lived for two years before he died on us which was still surprising because he wasn't sick or showing any signs of stress. But ever since that experience the whole filter incident has made me nervous. Instead I just clean the tank a couple times a week.
