I have a female betta. I got her when she was a baby and she is still growing I think. I'm not sure at what age they start holding eggs but how can you tell if its from eating too much or eggs? She sometimes gets into the shrimp and snail food so it could be that. Any help? I'll try to post a pic later tonight!
Females tend to always have eggs.. could try fasting her for a few days, if it's food it will pass, if it's eggs she'll probably absorb them.. then make more after a bit of time.
I feed her NLS pellets, 2-3 two times a day, I also feed her frozen brine shrimp as a treat 1-2 times a week (replacing one meal). Today is the second day I have fasted her, she still looks bloated but is acting fine. I believe she was bloated from eating a ghost shrimp I had in there, she no longer wanted to be friends I guess lol.
She is still pretty tiny so I'm slowly increasing the number of pellets. I also think she is too young to hold eggs...?? I have no clue. She did poop a lot when I fasted her. Today she pooped once. I'm gonna release her from her little cup that's floating in her tank in the morning. Hopefully she doesn't eat any more shrimp :/ just I continue feeding her the daily pellets?

lol nooooo That's her ovipositer, or "egg spot"- where her eggs come out of. That means she's almost definitely female (not 100% though because I've heard that some young males can have a fake one).
Also I just re-read your original question and I misunderstood it the first time and I thought you were asking how to know if she was definitely female.

our female Freija was about your girl's size back in september, and she's pushing 2.5 inches BOL now, and so fat and eggy we've jokingly considered breeding her just to get her to drop some of em!
