the fish people at my pet store say opposite things than the experts on this forum. They told me bettas dont need a biofilter and that 2.5 gal tank was a really large tank for a betta. They scare me.

Just want to add if lololomay will do 100% water changes you need to acclimate him very slowly to the new water. And i think you can find Epsom salt at any pharmacy store.

A turn for the worse

I came home from work today and Cecil has taken a turn for the worse. His fins are more ragged than ever, his main tail fail has turned dark grey, his head is 75% white/silver, and he is barely able to move. He is floating more upside down than sideways and doesn't respond unless the tank is jostled. I feel so terrible every time I see him just obviously suffering beyond help day in and day out. I think its only a matter of days, if even, before he dies. Would it be the humane thing to do to put him out of his misery? If so, what should I do. . .

Thanks everyone for your help. :(

If you feel he is suffering and there is no other way you can euthanize him. I use clove oil... Make sure to use a container that you can toss away. A couple drops every 10 or so minutes. It should put him to sleep, the. You add a few more drops and he should pass away peacefully with no pain.
