10 gal tank too much?

I think your betta will do just fine in any tank, the important part is that it has clean and warm water. If find Bettas are generally much healthier and disease resistant in temps around 80F.

The main advantage to you larger tank is the fact that the water quality will be much better simply due to the larger water volume. It will take more time for the water to deteriorate and should give enough time for the nitrogen cycle to establish itself.

Another tip (which I just did with my betta in a 10g by herself - yes, I think Sassypants is a girl)...is, if you're getting lots of flaring and general freaking out, putting nonreflective paper on the sides of the tank helps a lot too.

Sassy would not.stop.freaking until I papered up the sides of the tank. Now she's fine, and we're working on removing the paper...slowly. The tank is well planted and all, but she really needed to define the space, and she needed help to do that. I also floated some plants and some oak leaves on the top to help her further.


Just an idea. Don't even know if you need it anymore, but there it is.

My newest one flared almost constantly in his new tank for the first three days, but has calmed down since. My guess is he was claiming his new territory.
