I just bought a five gallon and I haven't plugged it in yet. So, I was just wondering how everyone else had supplied power to their tanks. I need to plug in the hood light, the filter and the heater. I was thinking of using a power strip with surge protector. But, I have bad anxiety, and I've been suddenly consumed with the idea that everything will catch fire. (Although I understand that the wires need drip loops.)
I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how you're powering yours! It might help to calm me down.
I used a power bar/strip, as well. I have an extension cord, my heater, a filter, an alarm clock, and two lamps on it, and have never had any problems. For my other tank, I use an extension cord, since my outlet is impossible to get to, and I have never had a problem with that, either.
Power strip with surge protector. I'd never plug anything connected to my aquarium directly into the wall. I have the heater, filter, and light hood on it. On another outlet/strip I have two heaters and an air pump.
Also a little advice for people who lives in places where power goes out often, you guys can get a UPS (Uninterruptible power supply). There's a couple places online that sells them, Amazon for example.
