Thank you everyone who answered, your posts were very helpful. After much research, I believe Confettiman (his nickname) passed away from ammonia poisoning. From looking at pictures, he had pink streaks at times and slightly pink gills. I should have been a better owner and kept a better water change schedule for him... If only I had done this research beforehand. I'm so sorry Confetticake...

1-50 AND 1-100% water changes a week will be fine. You need to make sure you will acclimate the betta. It not your fould that Confetiman died. You actually was doing good job for him. I have a few betta in one gall and i also do 100% water changes every 4-5 days. Go to the pet store and check your water. I think you don't even have to pay. Just make sure your water don't have ammonia in it . It would be first step before you buy another betta. So don't really blame yourself, not your foult.

I think similar things have happened to most of us. Please don't feel too bad about it, the key is learning and trying again armed with knowledge.

There is something about bettas that confuse even experienced fishkeepers at times...they similar to other fish, but thier needs are just different enough to throw us off. There is even more of a learning curve if you're completely new.

Its 1 50 percent every other day and 1 100 percent weekly.

Make sure you a tank AT LEAST 5 gallons, a heater, filter and water testing kits. Betta fishes love live plants and need plenty of room to swim around. Smaller tanks need to be cleaned ever other day 50-100% water changes. He might have died from ammonia poisoning. I'm sorry for your loss.

You dont NEED five gallons. Most members use 1-2 gallons.
