That male looks more like a delt or possible round tail.. veils would have more of a blunt edge at the end with a bit more droop.

I do have to agree that it isn't a halfmoon.. cute pair though!

The male pictured in this thread is a most definitely a young veiltail. Young veiltails often have a decent caudal spread, but as their fins grow longer...their tail begins to droop. Veiltails are basically roundtails that have a mutant dominant gene to have longer fins. True deltas are required to have long, sharp caudal edges. I bred veiltails 25 years ago, and I certainly know how to identify one.

The dorsal threw me off as it's more rounded than what a VT would have. Along with the anal not being as long.. and if the fish is breeding, it should be old enough to have a more proper looking VT tail. Guess I was wrong.. woops.

The "droop" I was talking about in young VTs - the tail will look round, but it does have a distinct droop to the bottom that I can't see in his fish - his is closer to the delta.

I have a young Male VT and I can assure you they are not the same. The Male I am breeding is 100% non-VT but possibly Delta, or something else.
