you dont have to change the water everyday but this is a new tank set up, right? With a filter, the tank is going to do something called the nitrogen cycle. When it finishes in about a month, then you only need to do one small water change a week but until then - you want to do a water change every 3-4 days or so.

Somehere on here is a stickie by oldfishlday about a betta specific nitrogen cycle.
