Heater broke while out of town

I left my bettas for 2.5 days and thought all would be fine. NOT.

I came home to find the Aqueon 10W heater which is only one month old failed while I was gone. Water was 59 degrees and my fish were swimming very slowly.

I put a new heater in there and added some warmer water. We are up to 66 degrees so far after about 1.5 hours. I am fearful of shocking them with a quick increase but also afraid they are so cold.

I have not given them any food yet. They are becoming more active.

Any suggestions what I should do here????? Thanks for any help.

yeah, increase temp slowly, you could probably go up a couple degrees an hour, but dont go more than like 5-6*/day or else you will shock them
I say that if they are at 66 now then I'd wait till tomorrow morning to start increasing again to avoid shock.

Goodluck!!!!

We're at 76 Degrees this morning and they are feisty and hungry for breakfast. Hopefully no harm done. Really pissed at the Aqueon heater. If I'd been gone one more day they probably would have been dead. Sheesh.
