Usually the plastic wrap won't be an air tight seal to start with due to the heater cord. Plus, as long as you have dead air space between the water and wrap-you will have plenty of air-Then every time you open it to feed, water change...etc....will help for the gas exchange....I haven't ever suffocated a Betta by doing this-even on small container that I do have an air tight seal-provided that you open it at least once a day and have a dead air space....
