Coral/Anemone Decorations

Has anyone seen or used the coral/rock/rubber anenome decorations at Walmart in their betta tanks? I think the rubbery anenome would be pretty neat and something they might swim through safely like silk/real plants, but I'm a little edgy about the coral/rock part which feels rather rough (derp, like a rock! lol). Just wondering if the usual panty-hose rule applies to /rock/ decorations too. They don't have any protrusions or spikes or corners...just rough to the touch.

I had one of those once. Then it became an algae magnet and I threw it away. For some reason algae loved to grow on that thing.
