My Oscar is a Grump

So. My baby oscar is grumpy. I dont know what to name him, and right now he is in a 10 gallon until I can build my 60 gallon tank.

I bought him from walmart because he was crammed in a 5 gallon with maybe 20 other oscars, and he has really distinctive markings, and was active.

But now he seems lonely, and dug a hole and lies in it. He has a nice temperature of 77. And Ive been feeding him bloodworms to supplement his diet.

Plus he seems to like the light off. Every time I turn it on, he hides. How can I help him to be more pleased with his surroundings?

Try 75 for an Oscar. With heavy duty filteration.

Agree, much much bigger tank required for them.

10g is way too small for it, even when young they are extremely active fish. Being alone is not a problem as it is best to do unless you have a large 125g+ tank.

Oscars get big quick and to be honest even a 60g tank is too small for him, what do you mean by building a tank? physically building it or getting it and required equipment.

I haven't ordered the glass yet, so that probably wont take much tweaking on the design. I did read that they were a heavy bio load.

To be honest - you would be much better looking for a used tank of at least 75g, the cost saving of buying a tank that size compared to building one is nothing.

DIY tanks really only offer excellent savings above 250g+

Oh, Im building it because my husband and I do carpentry, and had an L shaped corner design with cherry varnish and drawers.
