I'm guessing male veiltail. Glad to hear the fin rot is getting better, he looks like he'll have a beautiful tail once it's grown back!

The lid said female, But when I got it at wal mart it had such bad fin rot that i figured they didnt know the gender. but I have never seen a female with a long bottom fin! Also, it flares at everything! It won't hold still long enough to let me see if there's a white dot on the belly. I love it just as much either way :)

How big is she/he? From the picture it does look like a female, the ventrals are a little long but I've seen females with long ventrals, does she/he live alone? There's just something about her/him thats making me think possible young male...

Its about an inch and a half including fins. She/he lives alone but LOVES flaring at reflection, plant, filter, thermometer. (its kind of funny)

Picture wise it looks sort of female, can you get more pictures?
Behavior wise it sounds male, usually aggression indicates male.

Check for a protruding beard at the gills, males will have a bigger beard to make them look larger when flaring.

Female VT.. short ventrals, ovi, dorsal and tail all point straight to a vt female.
I have a couple females with huge anal fins.. and every female flares and can be just as aggressive as a male in every way.

Female VT - notice the same dorsal, tail, anal, etc. This one is about 2yrs of age and will flare at all fish she sees.
