Bettas Meet

So far, due to some unfortunate circumstances, there were two instances where my bettas met.

Bubs met Squirt when he wiggled through the divider. Entering into Squirt's territory led to some flaring, but then there was absolutely no aggression. They even swam together at times.

The second tieme was yesterday when Jingles got through the divider and found Starburst. There was some chasing, but Starburst stayed away from Jingles, hiding in the corner.

I feel like all of my fish are semi non-aggressive but then there is Jingles...

So thankful no one gets hurt :/

Some of my friends put 5-6 male vts in a 10 gallon filtered tank.
He said when you introduce them together at the same time,they won't fight.Maybe a little flaring but none have suffered major injuries.They are already together now for 5 months.

Careful, this isn't true. When they fight bettas, they put them in at the same time.

Your friend is lucky that his males are stressed and thus will only form an "alpha" dominance.

To be honest, I could never put any of my boys together, no matter how docile they may seem.

They flare at that already wakes a HUGE red flag for me.
But evenso, I could never feel safe putting males together...

I don't know why some people are obsessed with housing male bettas successfully in a tank together. Even my wild betta males will tear strips off each other when the mood takes them and they aren't even out of the splendens complex! My ideii pair would try and kill each other if I left them unsupervised even in a tank that was 100L and has plenty of cover.

I always want to know how long these 'male only' tanks last. It seems like an awful lot of stress on both the highest and lowest members in the pecking order. Usually when I see someone's tank housing multiple males the fish look unhappy or their fins have taken quite a beating.

I had two males get through the divider. One was almost killed by the other and even then with bits of fin half ripped off and his scales all battered, he was still trying to slide sideways under the divider to get to the other fish. It's why I only ever house males/females in divided tanks now and never males together.

Housing two males together is only going to result in disaster.

I have heard two males can work in a 50+.
