Can a filter start a cycle unintentionally?

I'm wanting to set up a 5 gal. With heater. Wasn't planning on using a filter but after reading some posts today about heaters there was mention of water movement to help distribute the heat evenly. The reason I don't want to use a filter is because I travel a lot and won't be able to monitor the process. ( wife will do water changes but don't think she will even want to try and understand the cycling process) But would the filter naturally cause a cycle to start? Any other way to keep the tank every heated?

Actually, yes a filter will cause a cycle. It is not as scary as you believe... As long as she does water changes every week, it should be fine. Someone else should chime in for the amount of water changes before the cycle is complete ;-)
