Lighting issue

I have a 5 gal for my betta, and it came with a 15watt incandescent bulb, but I would like to upgrade to a compact fluorescent. The tank hood says no more than 25 watts. Today, I got a 10watt compact fluorescent, and it fit perfectly; however, when I turned it on, it lit up and then immediately blew out. Anyone know what went wrong or have any suggestions? I know sometimes fluorescent bulbs have comparison wattage for incandescent equivalent. My tank is planted and I'd like them to get some good light.

Hmm, I'm thinking it was just a bad light. Maybe exchange it for another and see if that one blows too? I dont imagine the wattage is an issue.
My 10 gallon hood says the same thing, no more than 25 watts, (per side) I have 10 watt CFL's in it with no issue.
If thats the problem, I'd try to find something with lower wattage, Or you could possibly get LED instead, they have the right spectrum for plants too.

I went to the store today and exchanged it for a new one, and it worked just fine! Thanks for the help. c: I'm glad the tank has better light now.
