Tank Mates

I have a 10 gallon tank with a filter and a heater which keeps the tank between 74 and 78. The betta is perfectly happy. He loves swimming around now. I want to get some more fish in the tank and I was thinking of neon tetras and some time of bottom dweller that would help keep the tank clean. Does anyone have any recommendations? And if tetras are okay how many should I get, I know they're schooling fish. My betta is a male crown tail that is red and a light purple btw

well you can have 1 fish to every 2g so if your going to get neons i would only suggest 2 and a small form of bottom feeder fish

I chose a golden mystery as a tank buddy for my betta, but I have a friend who uses a pleco too. They're both compatible. She too tried to put in a school of six tetras with one of her bettas, but they nipped his fins. You may have luck with tetras though, since it kind of depends on personalities. Non-fancy guppies are alright, along with cories and platies that aren't too flashy.

Well I heard six tetras were fine in a ten gallon since they are small. You might be thinking of the jumbo tetras

Remember when you get new fish to qt them for two weeks before adding them to your tank.

I would say five, they are pretty small plus they seem really happy when in 5+. I had five with my betta and it didnt work out. It stressed my betta out. I moved the neons in my 30 gallon tetra tank now they are schooling with the other 6 tetras.
