i think that an in tank thermostat would better suit what i want to do because of the living plants as well they need to be at a certian temp as wel.

I use the suction cup thermos in my tanks because I just like being able to move them and they work well.

They cost around $3. I also like these because you can hang it on the neck of a water jug to check the temp. of the tap water when doing water changes.

I just took this shot of Bob in his 5 gallon with the thermometer on the top right side of the tank.
