Hallyx...they did not say why they add ammonia and I didn't think to ask that question. We have a seperate filtered water spiket next to the faucet for filtered water. We use a basic GE Smart Water filter that is installed for our filter system. But I tested both the filtered and regular tap water and they were not much different in ammonia levels. The only other thing I have found from reading is this:
Municipal water systems disinfect with chlorine and chloramine. The chloramine is a compound of chlorine and ammonium, which does not evaporate in long supply lines.
Ammonium is not as reactive or harmful as ammonia, but it often gives a positive reading on tests. I just still have a hard time believing that it would show a test result this high for ammonia even if it is testing positive for Ammonium.
I don't know...guess I will just stick to Spring Water until I can figure this out or someone can instruct me on what to try next.
