Need advice on dividing a tank...

Ladies and gentleman it has happened...I have caught the Betta Fever! I aquired my first betta christmas eve...(my christmas present to myself LOL) When I bought Leonard I bought him a 1gal minibow because I didn't do proper research beforehand. Now he's happy and healthy in his 5.5gal humble abode. This time around I want to get all the info I need before buying anything.
My plan is to get a 10 gal tank and divide it to house 2 bettas. I've searched through numerous threads and haven't been able to find all the info I'm looking for. I found the link to make your own divider but what about the heater and filter...Where is the best place to put them and what brands of filters are best?
Any other advice or pros and cons on dividing tanks is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

I've seen some people make a "gap" in the middle of the tank with two dividers and put the filter and the heater in the middle of it. It also acts as a safe guard if one of the betta was to try jump - they would end up in the middle. I think it's a good idea. As for brand - there really isn't a specific one, just what is you find is good and works for your tank - and make sure the mesh etc as plenty of holes for flow and filtration. You may even want to have two heaters in your tank if it's long - one on each side. Otherwise in the middle is best :)
