Filter Choices, Any Suggestions? (Kritter Keeper)

Cadence my VT betta currently live in a 1 gal minibow, with plenty of water changes, but I want to upgrade to a 3 gal Petco kritter keeper. I was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a nice filter that I could use with it and still keep the lid on (I have a cat so I need the lid). Thanks for all your help!

Sponge filter with a control knob on the air supply line so you can slow down the bubbles.

I don't filter my Kritter Keepers, just observe frequent water changes. AFAIK, filter a tank that small isn't really worth it because of the difficulty establishing the nitrogen cycle....small tanks don't keep a stable cycle

100% agree and you can make your own tiny sponge filter

A filter in that small of a tank is really optional. I don't filter anything smaller than 5 gallons, and that is only because the 5 gallon is overstocked. My 10 gallon does not and will not have a filter. A filter can lure people in a false sense of security about water cleanliness and also it just makes water changes more difficult imo.

It is also very important to note that if you have live plants a filter will be very detrimental to their growth, especially a sponge filter, or anything that add bubbles to the water column as that will remove any CO2 in the water.

I also don't bother with filters on mine - only 10g and up get filters (not eough outlets for everything). I know there is the tetra 3i and the small world filter that are both supposed to be for small tanks. Never used either one though.

If it ws me, I would just pay the $15 and get a 5 gallon. Then you can cycle it, supposedly smaller tanks can cycle, but eh, I don't think it would be worth it.

Originally not even the 10's had filters. My apt was old and not in good repair when I lived in Alaska. I though I might start an electrical fire if I had too much stuff plugged in. Oddly enough, the day I was to move out, the apt that was the furthest away from me did have an electrical fire.
