Popeye, infection or tumour?

Hiya,
So I picked up this gorgeous little halfmoon betta at my local petstore. There seems to be something up with his eye. The eye itself is fine, but just around it, it would seem the tissue has swollen, creating a bubble. I don't think it is popeye, since popeye makes the actual eye of the fish pertrude, whereas his doesn't, just the tissue behind. Here is a pic.

I also don't think it's popeye, but as I didn't have any case of this disease inside my tanks, I am not sure. Let's wait for an answer from another person who has more experience. Maybe you should write a PM to Sakura or OldFishLady and kindly ask to have a look at this thread. In the meantime how is you're fish doing?

Yup, you understood perfectly. My fish is doing great, fully active, eating like a pig, fins in perfect condition and no signs of any infection (other than the bubble coming out from the side of his eye). To me, it looks like he may have been born with it and it is just some sort of deformity.

It looks like maybe a tumor to me but if you wanted to try to treat it I would go conservatively using only epsom salts - pure 100% magnesium sulfate per the ingredients label with no additives of any kind. Predissolve at a rate of 1/2 to 1 tsp per gallon and add this slowly over the course of an hour to avoid ph shock.

ES is like AQ in that it doesn't leave unless you do a water change. It's not toxic to plants and actually acts like a fertilizer. Also I would treat at least a week or two (no issues on toxicity) and then to remove just stop redosing and it will eventually be removed with your regular water changes.
