Amethyst

I've read in some places its safe and in other places not, what are your general thoughts?

I have an amethyst in my tank but I just read somewhere else that it's not safe and want to know if i should take it out.

It depends on a few factors...
1. Is it sharp?
2. Could it catch/tare fins or puncture your fish?
3. Is it innert? (It might be made of more than just purple quartz. You can test this by letting it sit in a covered bucket for a week and then testing the water chemistry)
4. Has it been exposed to any harsh chemicals or substances that could cause a danger to your fish?

If all that is a no, you should be safe. Otherwise, it's your call after you weight the benifits with the risks.
