5 gal, I want to have Betta + 2 others.

I have a 5 gal tank, filled to about 4.5 gal I would say (my Betta is a crazy acrobat so I can't fill up more because he can hurt himself by jumping too high). Along with him lives a highly hilarious, twitchy and stupid ghost shrimp. They get along absolutely fine to the extent where the shrimp sometimes tries to piggy back ride my Betta. Seeing how my Betta is absolutely timid, I was wondering if I can fit in another aquatic creature.
Would you recommend it? It really seems like there is more than enough space.
And if I should get something, what would you recommend?
The reason why I am considering it, is because before the shrimp my Betta used to be less energetic. Now that the shrimp has been added, I have never seen my Betta as active before. So I wonder if I add one more, would it make my Betta even happier?

You might be able to add another small bottom feeder. More shrimp or a snail. I keep my betta with a snail and they both get along just fine, although I have noticed my betta taking a liking to the snail's algae wafers. >:T

you could definitely add a few more shrimp.
Or you could add 1 snail
you could also divide the tank and add 1 more betta.

those really are the only options though, practically everything else needs something 10 gallons or larger.

Yeah, you are pretty limited to shrimp and a snail with a 5G. If you want to add more - look into a 10G or if you have the space a 20G. They are not any more harder to take care of then a 5G..
Cory's seem to be a popular chioce for tankmates but you need a group of 6, sand bottom and I think they like softer water.

I have a 4 gallon with 2 ghosties and will be getting a snail along with the betta. No more fish! (planted and aerated)

I guess I will catch flack cause I am outside the box on this one. I have a 5 gallon and along with my veiltail I have 2 sunset honey Gouramis. These are the tiniest of the gouramis. They have been together a month and I have no problems. It can actually be kind of funny at times, cause the betta will get face to face with one of them, flare his gills, the gourami will just look at him like 'what's your problem' then swim off. I know this is not conventional thinking, but it works in my house!

Bad idea to keep gouramis in something so small. They'll live stunted shortened lives. They grow 1-2 feet in length depending on the type! It's like trying to stuff a comet goldfish in a bowl. Dwarf ones can do okay in 20g, but that's really the smallest.

If it were me I would do a snail. But not a Mystery snail in such a small tank, they are big poopers. I would get a Nerite snail. They're great algae eaters too.

Some people would think snails are boring but with a shrimp you are sure to get a comedy show from the two xD
