Do betta's eyes change when sleeping?

Throughout the day my bettas have like solid colored eyes but at night when they're sleeping they get like a ring around their eyes, has anyone else notice this?

It may be the lighting/shadows.. they don't have eyelids and can't change the shape of their eyes.

It's not so much the shape it's the color instead of being solid black its like black with a light ring around it

Yeah, I've noticed that happening to my guys too. Looks kinda funny the first time you see it.

I've never noticed this... When the lights are on my bettas do not sleep, so needless to say, I have never seen their eyes when they are sleeping.

However, you may find this interesting... I have a blind Betta whose eyes are never solid black. They always have a white ring around them, and the black part in the middle glows red. I don't know if this has anything to do with him being blind.

Now that you mention it, though... I think I'll go check out all of their eyes and are if my blind bettas eyes look significantly different than the others.

I thought the same thing, but I guess it's just their way of adapting their eyes to darkness.
