How wild is Archie?

I imported this little guy from Thailand last year. I haven't bred him yet because his tail is a little bit ratty looking. He is pretty colorful however and a real character. He is pretty skittish and if you surprise him he will freak and crash into the end of his tank, After looking at the wild species I think he has a fair bit of wild betta in him possibly. Thoughts? And is it worth it to breed Archie?

I take it archie is the betta you have for your avatar? If so maybe it is just the angle of the photo but he has a more female shaped body.......

He isn't actually a wild type betta but he is a plakat meaning that he is more closely related to wild bettas than other varieties of bettas.

Only really you can answer whether you think it is worth breeding Archie... it depends on your aims...... also have you ever bred bettas before? It is a lot of work.... you need to breed live food for the babies and do water changes every day to ensure an even growth rate between fry because they let of growth inhibiting hormones that will stunt their growth. Also you need to consider whether you have the ability to jar possibly 100 + males when they reach a certain age and begin to fight. Do you have some way of rehoming the babies as you may breed many more than you are able to keep..... is there a local pet shop that will take them... do you have friends you can give them to?

All of these things need careful consideration before taking the plunge and deciding to breed them.

I dont know about 'wild', Setsuna on here would know the best I think. As for breeding, I say why not give it a shot? You may get lucky and get some really interesting fry. Have a female you want to try him with?

Yeah I may pm Setsuna for this one. I have a HM dragonscale female named Emma I may consider breeding him with. She is huge and he is a tiny lil guy. The iridescent green around his gills makes me think he is partly wild. He is skittish but if you dont scare him a super friendly fella.

Why not breed him? Any torn fins will not appear in the fry of corse. And he is like some sort of green chocolate? I wouldn't wait much longer, old ones are tricky!

He's a beautiful looking boy with an unusual colour, but I don't see any wild in him at all. Also, the only hybrids I have seen between wilds and the ornamental form of splendens, is usually done using plakats.
