Can Artificial Plants Tear Fins?

I have a little Halfmoon betta male with pretty long fins. His tank is about 75% artifical plants and I'm a bit worried he's going to get a fin snagged. Can this happen?

Yes it can, mostly with plastic plants. Most silk plants are okay but they can snag too. Lots of aquarium ornaments are not safe and need to be sanded, especially the insides of caves.

You can test using women's panty hose.. drag them thoroughly, over and through anything you put in the tank (take it out of the tank to test). If it snags at all it won't work.

Along with what callistra has already mentioned, halfmoons are susceptible to fin tears along almost any surface. This could include a snag on a piece of driftwood you are unaware of. HM's have delicate fins :) But don't worry, Most silk and nearly all live plants are safe. Just watch out for metal in silk plants if you buy them at craft stores.
