My betta eating habits

I just bought a new betta and he only eats any types of food while falling. Not at the top or at the bottom. Is there an easier way to feed it or a tool I can use. I don't want to sit there and force my food to drop or pick it back up for 10 mins straight. If I don't then I wasted food and the tank gets dirtier quick.

Some are like that especially in the beginning. It took about a week for my newest one to get the hang of it, now he eats the food wherever it is. I just drop the food & if it fall it falls; let the Betta scavenge it off the tank floor. Eventually they typically start eating from the surface but there's no reason he can't eat from the bottom. Just feed less until he starts picking from the surface if you want. I usually tap the water with my finger to get the Bettas attention then drop one pellet once he's looking, if he eats it ill drop another one & if he misses I stop, then try again the next day. Once he's eating all the ones I drop consistently I just drop in a certain # of pellets each time & he gobbles them up.
