This is something you need once you get your new Betta. Unlike a lfs Betta you need to do this in a dark room. I always close the curtains and turn off all the lights when I unpack new fish.

I pick my fish up directly from Linda Olson the transhipper for the Thai. The fish come in good condition and are packed carefully by the Thai and depending on transshipper (only use Linda or Jen as they are the only reliable ones form what I've heard) they come in good condition. Just acclimate them very very slowly as our water is vastly different from the Thai's.

i think i took 2.5 hours to acclimate my only AB betta and he started eating right away. my others were domestic and i took 1 hour to do so ie water parameters some ate right away some didnt.

Linda Olson is great! Perfect communication, takes the necessary extra steps on fish that need it (i.e., for giants, she automatically adds more oxygen into the bag and ial). I haven't had to contact her before I buy, I do this once I pay for the fish and I just forward that email on to her and give her a heads up and ask how much for express. My recommendation - ALWAYS pick Express Mail. You get the warranty and you can track where your fish is if it doesnt arrive the day its supposed to.

All in all, buying off AB is easy and great. The only downside, as others have said is that you do pay a lot for shipping costs.. but IMHO its worth it because some of the fish they have on that site you will not find in the U.S.
