male betta tail seems it is disenagrating?

My friend has a male betta seemed perfect when left for weekend - this morning it looks like the main (middle) fin tail is disdenagrating, the lower fin tail is hanging....what causes this ...I have never seen this before? Will itr grow back...or is it dooms day for her fish?

he could be a tail biter or it could be fin rot. what do the edges look like?

like a clean break, I thimk it is affecting his swimming, the lower tail fin (top part) is kinda hanging

does your friend have a test kit that you could use to give us the water parameters. how often and how much water does he change?
if it is fin rot, you would have to get the water parameters perfect to have good water quality, then they may grow back on their own

could his fin have caught on something and ripped?

i would say just make sure to keep the water clean, and his fins should grow back fine :)

Hi There,

Does your friends tank have any other fish in there too that could have nipped his fins ? what are the water parameters, ie, Nitrate, Ammonia,Ph,Nitrite...
Is there any coral ornaments in there he could have swam against and shreddedhis fins ?
It does sound like Fin Rot which will need to be treated, but first if he is sharing his tank with other fish he will need to be seperated as this is contagious and you should only treat the fish with this ailment and not the whole tank, as these treatment can be poisonous to fish that are not suffering...
