bettas make noise?!

So I have a red veil tail. I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this with their bettas?

To begin with, I can hear him chewing his food sometimes... lol

And also, a few weeks ago I was watching him when all of a sudden he started flapping his pectoral fins like crazy, and spitting ity bity food particles (almost like dust) while he made this "clicking" noise. Then he just swam off and cruised his tank and never did it again.

Just wondering if this is normal? is it common? has anyone else ever noticed this?

Oh yes on the chewing. I love listening to them chow down

I haven't seen the other with any of mine, but they do get excited and wiggly at times.

Yes, when my red VT Fred eats Omega One and NLS makes a sound that sounds like he is munching on chips. not so with the freeze dried brine shrimp and daphnia. I think it is the pellets that are crunchy.

My little guy does that when I feed him freeze dried bloodworms as a treat. He grabs it in his mouth and begins chewing and crunching on it, and then takes off to hide under the silk plant leaves to eat in privacy.
Sometimes these little guys come with the funniest personalities.

Yeah I can hear all mine chewing when it's really quiet in the room and they are feeding right at the surface.

I can hear mine munching away at his NLS pellets. I also can hear him when he's making his bubble nest. It's a small clicking sound.

They have tiny teeth, so you can hear them sometimes :)

As for the other.. it sounds as if he was in "father" mode for some reason o.O Males will chew food and spit out tiny particles while vibrating their fins.. which will get the attention of the fry and they will come over to eat. Unsure if that is what he is doing exactly, but sure sounds like it lol.

Oh wow all of these stories are so cute and funny! :) I never knew you could actually hear a fish chew!

And about the other part... Yeah I just read something about how some male bettas do that to feed their fry. But why on earth would mine be doing this?? He's all alone in his tank.

He hasn't done it since, but just curious to know :)

Oh, yes. I can hear my boys and my biggest girl chewing and my CT snaps so aggressively at his pellets that I can hear that, too. He's blind so I feed him with a skewer to help him find his food and he latched on to it once. Made a pretty loud noise and I jumped and pulled the skewer out of the water while he was still attached! Kind of like when you play tug-o-war with a dog and the grab onto the rope and you lift them off the ground with the rope, lol.
