Hi everybody, I am new here to these forums! I have been thinking about setting up a few Betta tanks lately. What would you say the minimum size tank is for one? I was thinking of the Aqueon Evolve 4.

I was also curious as to how many different species of Bettas there are. For instance, is a "Mustard Gas" Betta its own species, or is it just a variant of one species?

Also, would you recommend a heater in Betta tanks? Thanks everybody, I hope to have a great time here!

1st. minimum 5 gallons so little fishy can be nice and happy 10 gallon is better though:)
2nd. I don't know so sorry
3rd. it should be between 76-80 degrees Fahrenheit so if your house is cold yes you need a heater

Hello, and welcome to the forum. :)
A MG, (mustard gas) is just a type of coloring to bettas. It's like a dark blue bodied betta with mustardy yellow fins. The domestic bettas we have now are called betta splendens. They're the bettas you can find in the store in small, little cups. Betta fish are naturally tropical fish so a heater is highly recommended. They would be cold and their immune system will be weak in water temperature below 75F IME.

2.5 is the bare minimum for one betta.
For heaters I use TOP FIN, bu it really counts on whats avaliable and the size of your tank.
