If you have enough smaller "pest" snails to feed the assassins, they'll probably leave the mystery snails alone if they are full grown. Probably. If you have baby mystery snails, those will get eaten if they are caught.

The only snails I've never seen assassins attach are nerites because they just can't get through the "trap door."

Do the assissins multiply like the "pest" do? I'm not sure how I got the "pests" but they are taking over my tank. Just don't want to fix a problem and cause another one. :)

I started doing a bunch of research a couple of weeks ago, because someone asked me this question: If there are enough Assassins, then they will gang up on your mystery snail and kill it. But one assassin, and one mystery should be fine, I rarely ever see my assassin outside of the sand, and my mystery (before I rehomed him) was on the walls and plants, and all trips across the substrate were very short.

We also have Malaysian Trumpet snails, ramshorns, and an infestation of pond snails.

Pest snails (ponds and rams) are hermaphroditic, so they'll keep reproducing after mating once, even if another mate isn't available.

Mysteries, trapdoors, nerites, and assassins are specifically male or female, so you need one of each gender for them to reproduce. If I remember correctly, not even baby assassins are safe from adults.

Also, useless trivia, assassins are actually a freshwater whelks, not snails.
