Betta Filter Question

I have my Betta in a five gallon. I would like to use a filter for him, but when I turn it on I think the current is a bit too much. I don't see a way to adjust it. Can I rig it up somehow with something to lower the power of the flow? Its a Tetra Whisper brand filter.

Is it okay for now just to run it periodically until I can figure something out?

Ugh I'm so new to all this. I use to keep fish back in the day but I never knew really the right way to keep them. I am now really into learning the correct way to keep fish and live aquatic plants. So expect to see a lot of questions form me around this board lol

If it's the intank variety, there's a sliding bar on the bottom.

If it's one of the new ones here's something that I saw elsewhere that seems to work well. Applies to pretty much all HOB filters.
