I have purple cabomba. I love the plant. My problem with it is that it takes a very, very long time to root. It's also got a very thin, very flexible stem. That means that will all of the fronds, it pulls itself out of the substrate and floats.

It actually does pretty well as a floating plant - it's not a root feeder to begin with. I would just prefer that it stays in the ground! Occasionally, it floats because the stem breaks, but it's more because it just lifts from the substrate. He may be having a situation with this betta where it is floating up, and then the betta is attacking it.

Also, when doing a trim, you have to trim off the top, pull the bottom, and re-plant the top - once you cut the nice beautiful shape from the top of the plant, it will never grow back so you have to keep that part and discard the bottom, or let the bottom keep growing without the nice pretty crown. That just means you're ALWAYS fighting with the substrate problem, because it grows fast and you're ALWAYS replanting!

There is minimal flow coming out of pump. I'm sure it's a combination of above mentioned .
