Sponge filter

Hey! I just bought a sponge filter and I have a couple of questions:
1.The sponge is really big in my tank. Is it possible to cut it to reduce its size?
2. The air pump causes a really strong current. Is it possible to reduce it, and does it hurt the betta?

You can cut some sponge filters ... it depends on the sponge. I would think you could at least cut down the outsides of the sponge itself. I would recommend just getting a smaller sponge filter, though.

You can reduce the flow with an airline valve (gang valve or similar). I've also crimped the air hose with a binder clip or a rubber band when I didn't have a valve handy. The betta will appreciate a reduced flow if the air pump is too strong.
