Very Ill Walmart Betta

Last week I went to Walmart to get betta food for Adam and I took a look at the bettas. Normally, their water is pristine and the old man in charge is very nice and tries to be helpful. Well one bettas water was brown and he looked horrible so I left a note for the old man questionig it and bought him and brought him home. He is very sick but if he does survive this I will get him a permanent setup in a 10 gallon like Adam.

Housing
What size is your tank? He is in a temporary 1/2 gallon ziploc cup.
What temperature is your tank? Sitting at 79.2-ish
Does your tank have a filter? No.
Does your tank have an air stone or other type of aeration? No.
Is your tank heated? Yes.
What tank mates does your betta fish live with? None.

Food
What type of food do you feed your betta fish? Betta pellets has eaten few or none since I bought him.
How often do you feed your betta fish? Once a day 3-4 pellets

Maintenance
How often do you perform a water change? Every day.
What percentage of the water do you change when you perform a water change? 100%
What type of additives do you add to the water when you perform a water change? Water coditioner.

Symptoms and Treatment
How has your betta fish's appearance changed? No, he was like this when I purchased him a week ago. Torn/rotting fins, swollen scales on head, popeye, and sloughing slime coat. Popeye seems to have lessened.
How has your betta fish's behavior changed? Very lethargic. Seems to swim more now.
When did you start noticing the symptoms? In store. One week ago.
Have you started treating your fish? If so, how? Clean, heated water.
Does your fish have any history of being ill? ?
How old is your fish (approximately)? Store Age.

You need epsom salts - pure 100% magnesium sulfate with no perfumes, dyes or additives of any kind. I get mine from CVS Pharmacy. Predissolve it at a rate of 1 tsp per gallon and add it slowly to his tank. Once he's used to it you can just use it along with the water changes.

He also needs a gram positive internal antibiotic like Kanaplex. If you can't find Kanaplex try Triple sulfa.

Treat for 2 weeks

Ok I'll see if I can find that medicine. I actually have some Epsom salt at home. Would maracyn 2 help or hurt? I have some left over from some guppies awhile back...

Maracyn 2 is very unlikely to help and it's very stressful so I wouldn't do it.

Kanaplex is a Seachem med and can be hard to find

Triple Sulfa is an API med which is fount at Petsmart and lots of other places.

If you can't find either Maracyn might work.
